Cloth skillfully refurbished, restoring wear at the head and foot; cloth rubbed but sound, hinges repaired, sporadic stains in the cloth; some toning, wave, and scattered foxing to contents. Cloth appears to have been darkened to restore its color. Comes with a custom clamshell case for presentation. Publisher's blind-stamped brown cloth with gilt lettering to spine, original yellow endpapers. First edition. Ads dated May 1854, preceding the publication of the book that August.
